Madore places second in Chrysler event

Chrysler idling Windsor plant

Chrysler Canada will shut down production and idle about 4,900 workers at its minivan assembly complex in Windsor for two weeks next month. Ken Lewenza, president of Local 444 of the Canadian Auto Workers, confirmed yesterday the company has informed the union that production will stop during the weeks of Jan. 14 and Jan. 21 at the three-shift operation.

Carmaker looks to GM and Chrysler ventures

Gaz, the Russian truck, van and busmaker, is in talks with Chrysler and General Motors about possible joint projects in passenger car production. Leonid Dolgov, chief executive of Gaz s car division, told the Financial Times it was no secret his company was involved in talks with Chrysler. The Russian carmaker buys engines from Chrysler for its Volga sedans and Gazelle delivery vans. Next year it intends to launch a rebranded version of the Chrysler Sebring.

Chrysler LLC Opens New Supplier Park

TOLUCA, Mexico, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ — President of Mexico Felipe Calderon was joined by the Governor of the State of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto and the Mayor of Toluca Juan Sanchez today to celebrate the grand opening of Chrysler LLC Park. Chrysler Park is a joint project between the Company and its suppliers and part of a $1 billion (U.S.) investment announced last year.

Chrysler LLC Opens New Supplier Park In Mexico

The park is located next to Chrysler’s Toluca Complex where the Chrysler PT Cruiser is currently built and Dodge Journey production will begin early next year. Eight suppliers are currently part of the park. These suppliers will not only generate 1,600 new jobs, but also bring new technology to the operations of the adjacent Chrysler Toluca Assembly Plant.

Ford, Toyota post slight Nov. gains; GM, Chrysler sales decline

Chrysler said it sold 161,088 units. Gainers included the Sebring convertible, the Town & Country minivan and the Dodge Charger while consumers were more inclined to bypass large SUVs such as the Jeep Commander. Ford said continued demand for crossovers and fuel-sippers, as well as increased fleet sales, drove its U.S. sales in November to 182,951 units, up 0.4 percent from 182,259 a year ago.

Chrysler name stripped from New Castle school

New Castle ’s school board has voted 3-2 to drop Chrysler from the name of its high school. Beginning in 2011, the school will simply be called New Castle High School, according to The Star Press of Muncie. The school was named Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School when built in 1955, but sentiment to change the name cropped up after Chrysler sold its huge plant in the eastern Indiana town to Metaldyne Corp. in 2003.
