Chrysler Canada has been forced to slow down auto production significantly here because of a dispute with U.S. parts supplier Plastech Engineered Products Inc. The automaker confirmed yesterday it started cutting output by about half at its Brampton and Windsor plants during the morning shifts because of the dispute.

Feb 8, 2008 6:47:11 PM Any cosolidation and reduction of dealerships can only be good for Chrysler. They are just not moving enough product per dealership right now. Since demand will not increase significantly in the long run, the only other option is to reduce the number of points of sale. More profitable dealerships will allow them to reinvest in the dealership at a faster rate.

Impressive, really In a segment that’s constantly shrinking, Chrysler aims to reinvent the minivan one more time. After all, it’s this same company that created this type of vehicle in the ’80s, so giving up is out of the question. The minivan for the family with luxurious tastes.

Chrysler hopes to someday get 50 percent of its total sales from outside North America, President Jim Press said in October. Every region outside North America posted gains last year. The Middle East/North Africa rose 64 percent to 21,171 vehicles.

The immediate future of Chrysler’s operations in Indiana is open to question now that a supplier to the Detroit automaker has sought bankruptcy protection. Friday’s Chapter 11 filing by Plastech Engineered Products Inc. suddenly cut off a stream of plastic parts to Chrysler’s 14 assembly plants, according to the trade publication Automotive News. All 14 plants are at risk of at least temporary closure, the bankruptcy filing said.

Hot on the heels of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volkswagen group will soon unveil a new minivan that will go on sale in North America. In an attempt to boost their sales volume, Germany’s largest automaker has teamed up with Chrysler LLC to develop a minivan called the Routan which will be built at the Chrysler minivan assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario.

All of the sales regions outside North America posted gains for the year. The Middle East/Africa region led the growth with a 64 % increase over 2006. South Africa remained in the top ten Chrysler International markets with significant sellers locally including the Dodge Caliber and Chrysler Voyager.

Chrysler LLC announced today that it temporarily closed four of its assembly plants and may close other production operations due to a contract dispute with parts maker Plastech Engineered Products Inc. The plants Chrysler chose to idle are those in Sterling Heights, Mich., Newark, N.J., Toledo, Ohio, and Belvidere, Ill. The decision was taken as the car manufacturer is seeking an emergency court hearing to access machines from Plastech plants that exclusively make Chrysler parts.
