Chrysler pours $US150m into upgrades

The initiative, which will be marketed under the tagline that Chrysler’s new owners are ushering in a New Day for the struggling No. 3 US-based automaker, will be introduced to Chrysler dealers next month, Chrysler executives said at the Detroit car show. The plan includes intended fixes and upgrades to more than 260 vehicle features, and price changes covering 12 models.

Unlike GM, Chrysler touting all-electric cars

Unlike Nissan, which is looking at electric town cars, Chrysler seems to be touting performance. The speeds and range of the Zeo rival the upcoming Tesla Roadster. The Zeo even has four seats and four doors, unlike the two-seater Roadster. The big difference, of course, is that the Zeo is a concept car and many of those never make it out of the convention. (Note the crazy doors.) The first Tesla Roadsters will hit the road soon.

So what is the essence of the images that the ethnic profiles of the African American, Hispanic and Asian communities are looking for? When examining Strategic Vision’s New Vehicle Experience Study (NVES(TM)) some trends become clear. African Americans are attracted to vehicles that are Powerful and Classy (e.g. Chrysler 300). Hispanic buyers look for Aggressive and Powerful, but Confident and Protective vehicles (e.g. Kia Sedona).

Chrysler versus Maybach

At the 2008 Detroit auto show, we ran across two limousines, one by Maybach and one by Chrysler. The cars, the Chrysler 300C Hollywood and the Maybach Landaulet Study, featured some similar characteristics, which left us wondering if Chrysler walked off with some Maybach plans when it got sold off by Daimler. After looking at both cars, we started thinking about which one is better.

Winner Sable? Please…! The chrysler is 100 times better looking than the sable! Everyone knows that! Also the engine is much better then the sable! Besides anyone thats shopping and / or driving a Chrysler 300 wouldn’t even consider a sable. The sable is for the 60+ consumer, the Chrysler 300 is for the 40+ consumer.

New fuel cell concept unveiled by Chrysler

Chrysler has announced details of its concept car for 2008 - the ecoVoyager. According to the firm, the ecoVoyager marries a traditional American design with fuel cell range-extended electric vehicle technology. While the Chrysler ecoVoyager s wheels are driven by an electric motor, with the power primarily provided by a lithium-ion battery pack, the vehicle is also supported by a small hydrogen fuel cell which can extend its range for long trips.

Dodge Zeo, Jeep Renegade and Chrysler ecoVoyager concepts (video)

In their usual tradition for the Detroit Auto Show, Chrysler has produced a bunch of concept vehicles designed to exhibit their latest design and technology trends. The Dodge Zeo is a 2+2 sport wagon that demonstrates a new breed of muscle car. Destined for a younger crowd, the Zeo features an electric-only propulsion system with a battery pack that provides a range of 250 miles (400 km). The Jeep Renegade Concept is a small 2-seater suited for sunny-weather activities.
