Cheese Posted by Lisa Strawbridge - email AUBURN HILLS, MI (AP) - Chrysler Group LLC is asking the owners of more than 355,000 minivans to take them to dealers to replace crash sensors that help to control the airbags.

Chrysler says the sensors can crack and fail in 2005 and 2006 Town Country and Dodge Grand Caravan models. The automaker is calling the move a safety improvement campaign and says it is not a recall. But National Highway Traffic Safety Administration spokeswoman Olivia Alair says the agency is monitoring the repairs like a recall. Chrysler said Wednesday that in some weather conditions, the front crash sensors can crack, causing water to enter. The automaker says it is not aware of any complaints, injuries or property damage from the problem. Owners should contact their dealer in June. Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. Chrysler abatements may transfer (Kokomo Tribune)]

February 28th, 2010

Preliminary agreement up for discussion at council meeting By KEN de la BASTIDE Tribune enterprise editor The Kokomo Common Council will consider a resolution transferring tax abatements from Old Carco (formerly Chrysler LLC) to Chrysler Group LLC as part of a tentative agreement with Howard County.
The transfer of the tax abatements is part of the agreement between Howard County, Old Carco and Chrysler Group on the payment of personal property taxes owed for 2009 and 2010. A part of the agreement is that Kokomo and Howard County will transfer any tax abatements approved for Old Carco to Chrysler Group. At its meeting Monday, the council will consider a resolution granting a provisional assignment of the tax abatements to Chrysler Group. The meeting is 7 p.m. in City Hall. Transfer of the abatements was part of the agreement in principle, Howard County Attorney Larry Murrell said Friday. We need to have the transfer resolved by Feb. 28. Murrell said the transfer of the tax abatements would be on a provisional basis, subject to the finalizing of the remaining negotiations between the county, Old Carco and Chrysler Group. It gives the city and county some protection if the deal isn t completed, he said. Action by the Kokomo Common Council is all that is needed. Howard County Assessor Jamie Shepherd said the total of the tax abatements is approximately $9 million. The county has been seeking the payment of $12.9 million in personal property taxes due in 2009 and $12.3 million owed in 2010 for the past nine months. Last Monday, county officials announced the agreement after Old Carco filed documents with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. If there are no objections filed and the necessary paperwork is completed, the agreement could be finalized Feb. 18 by the bankruptcy court. Under terms of the agreement, Old Carco will pay 50 percent of the taxes due in 2009 and 14 percent of the 2010 taxes. Chrysler Group will pay 50 percent of the 2009 taxes and 86 percent of the 2010 taxes owed to the county, according to Murrell. The payment plan with Old Carco and Chrysler Group on the personal property taxes must be finalized, but the county will receive $11 million to cover all the real property taxes due for 2010 shortly after the agreement is finalized, he said.

Old Carco will reimburse Chrysler Group in the amount of $4.4 million for real estate taxes paid under protest in 2009. • Ken de la Bastide is the Kokomo Tribune enterprise editor. He can be reached at 765-454-8580 or via e-mail at ken.delabastide@kokomotribune.com

Consumers, Teamsters Protest Fiat/Chrysler at Washington D.C. Auto Show (The Auto Channel)]

Consumers, Teamsters Protest Fiat/Chrysler at Washington D.C. Auto Show Protesters Handbill, Sing & Dance, Telling Auto Show Attendees to ‘Beware the Bailout Bandit’ WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today, dozens of Teamsters who deliver new cars for a living, along with consumer activists from CarBuyersBeware.com, handbilled outside the Washington, D.C. Auto Show and staged a song and dance action inside the show venue to demand Fiat/Chrysler not destroy the jobs that support them and their families. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20100127/IBTLOGO) Fiat/Chrysler received $14 billion in the taxpayer-funded auto bailout that was meant to help the economy and save jobs. However, the company is now moving work away from the professional carhaul companies that have delivered their vehicles to dealerships for many years. The loss of this work could put these carriers out of business, leaving up to 5,000 people without jobs and health care. And by using cut-rate carriers, Chrysler risks new cars being damaged when delivered. "Fiat/Chrysler is moving work to less-experienced companies whose drivers are not well-trained," said Teamsters Carhaul Division Director Fred Zuckerman. "If improperly secured and transported, new cars can sustain hidden damages to tires, rims, axles and the overall frame. This can threaten your safety and can lead to costly repair bills in the future." Outside the auto show, consumer activists and union members handed out leaflets to attendees that read, "Fiat/Chrysler Buyers Beware: Hidden Damages On New Cars?" while inside, demonstrators broke into a song and dance routine to raise attention of these issues to auto show attendees.
"After Fiat/Chrysler received so much taxpayer money, it’s outrageous that they would outsource good jobs to low-wage contractors," Zuckerman said. "In this economy, America cannot afford to lose even more good jobs with good benefits. American car buyers and taxpayers, who thought Fiat/Chrysler would repay them with gratitude and loyalty instead of greed, are being betrayed." The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was founded in 1903 and represents 1.4 million hardworking men and women in the United States,

FAXCE OFF: Chrysler’s Sebring Vs BMW’s X6 Which Of These Is The Worst Buy? (Auto Spies)]

February 28th, 2010

What kind of cars do you think Justice League would drive today? B7FAN (View Profile) Posted on 2/8/2010 1:58:20 PM | | Votes: 5 In regards to the argument made above, I would argue that the majority of prius sales aren’t based on logic of picking the most fuel efficient vehicle available.
Most Prius sales are based off of emotions, feel good emotions, that make you feel like a better person because you spent money. But as to the twin turbo v8 hybrid suv and the car with no appeal to enthusiasts. I’d say if you ditch your preconceptions about hybrids saving the world. The x6 sounds like a fun car which sticks a middle finger up to conformity, that itself is worth a lot in a world where everyone tries to be different. As to the Sebring, people who don’t know cars view it as a cheap and decent looking vehicle, it’s not useless, it’s just not exciting. Finally.. worst buy… the sebring, just because I’d rather drive the x6.
